Spotlight: St. Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia (Tropicana PJ Campus)

Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve

Established in 2016, St. Joseph’s Institution International School Malaysia (SJIIM) was the first St. Joseph institution in Malaysia. Located in Tropicana Indah Petaling Jaya, SJIIM seeks to continue the legacy of St. John Baptist De La Salle’s 300-year-old education mission.

SJIIM welcomes students of all faiths to be part of its community and experience its values-centred education approach that is based on the Lasallian education ethos. Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve, SJIIM is committed to producing well-rounded learners at all levels.

At SJIIM, we believe that an important part of Lasallian education is to develop ‘good character’: a set of core ethical values that enables students to, not just be successful in exams, but live fulfilling lives as members of society. As such, our character education programme provides a framework by which we aim to cultivate ‘practical wisdom’ so that members of our community are able to make decisions that are guided by a moral compass, empathy, tolerance and consideration for othersSJIIM

Curriculum

SJII offers the following four stages of education:

Early Years Foundation: St Joseph’s International Institution Malaysia (SJIIM) uses the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework as the basis for its curriculum in Nursery and Reception. This framework ensures that all children have access to broad range of knowledge, and skills that are essential for future progress through school and life.

Elementary School (Years 1 – 6): SJIIM offers a stimulating, creative curriculum which draws on the very best programmes from around the world. The curriculum is largely based on the English National Curriculum, but they also offer Singapore Math and a daily Mandarin programme.

High School (Years 7 – 11): The SJIIM Foundation IGCSE course covers the age range of 11-13 years old (Year Groups 7-9). SJIIM follows the guidelines from the UK National Curriculum within an international context. The course content and materials are designed by our curriculum planning teams to appropriately prepare our students for the IGCSE courses that follow in Years 10 – 11. Students will study a range of compulsory subjects during Years 7 – 9.

IBDP: 16 – 17+ Year Olds: The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) enjoys a very high level of respect and recognition among the world’s higher education institutions. For students, success in the IBDP often results in advanced standing, course credit, scholarships or other admissions-related benefits at many universities. Today, over 4,500 schools worldwide offer IB programmes.

We understand that, whilst performance virtues (such as resilience, grit and determination) and intellectual virtues ( such as critical thinking and reasoning) are important, for these to be true virtues they need to be guided by moral virtues (compassion, integrity and humility) and civic virtues (community awareness, civility, service)SJIIM
