Onscreen Shows, Offscreen Fun – Activities Inspired By Your Favourite Netflix Shows & Movies

How many times have you heard “Mama/Dad, I’m bored!” this day, week, month, year? Here’s a little inspiration from your favorite Netflix shows on how to keep the kids entertained and turn onscreen joy into offscreen fun (with special hacks for parents!).

Netflix launches its Build Your Dreams Week to celebrate the launch of its newest animated feature film event Over The Moon, available beginning 23 October. You heard us right, sister sister. Join Tia Mowry as she takes us along a series of at-home events the whole family can enjoy.

To the stars and beyond….or  maybe just in your living room. Build a rocket using ordinary household items, enjoy a masterclass by the legend himself, Glen Keane (who was behind iconic films including The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Tarzan and Tangled).

Download activity sheets for your little one HERE. To join in the fun, please visit OvertheMoonNetflix.com to view the events and more!

Sugar Rush or Nailed It! Mexico (depending on your level of expertise):

A family that binges together, can bake together too. Whether you’re a modern Mary Berry or create a merry mess, there’s a delicious series to meet your baking needs from the competitive bakers of Sugar Rush to the complete disasters of Nailed It. Don’t be too hard on yourself – your assistant bakers care more about taste than appearance.

Use the Download feature and bring your sweet show or movie to your kitchen. To download, open the Netflix app and select a TV show or movie. From the description page, tap Downloads and voila!

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before:

Bust out the gel pens and glitter and write letters to friends, family and Peter Kavinsky. But be warned, sometimes your secret love letters can get mailed to your crush, just as Lara Jean.

Apply the same penmanship spirit to your Netflix by changing how your subtitles look like. Go to your account and select “Subtitle appearance” to make the words bigger or smaller, change the font, select the brightest colors and choose strange color combinations. Maybe you want to help your kid learn to read, practice another language or sing along. Maybe you just think your kid will have fun making the subtitles look wacky. Either way, Netflix makes this easy.

Carmen Sandiego

Everyone loves a scavenger hunt. Learn a thing or two from Carmen’s epic searching skills as she travels the world foiling V.I.L.E.’s evil plans. Who knows, they may just help you finally find the remote.

Help your kids take it on step further in channeling their inner Carmen Santiago when hunting for their next watch. Change their profile icons to some of the most beloved characters from Netflix shows and movies. Simply go to your account settings and choose “Manage profiles.” After you select a profile, you can edit it and change the avatar.

Wax on, wax off. Relive your Karate Kid memories (and ameatur martial art moves) while watching the drama between Johnny and Daniel continue to unfold. FYI – pillows make a great punching bag (and stress relief tool).

Another thing that you can wax on and off is Netflix’s autoplay feature for each profile on an account to limit your kids’ screen time. Turn autoplay on or off and it’ll take effect across all devices. Easy, peasy, lemon squeezy.

Floor is Lava

Make your living room an obstacle course, the first one across gets to pick the next show. Take note of techniques from the daring show contestants and learn how to dip, dive, jump and climb without touching the floor. Why? Because the FLOOR IS LAVA.

If you have a daring kid that occasionally tries to sneak into your Netflix account to watch shows that he or she shouldn’t. Yup, we know how cheeky kids can be. Keep ’em out by locking your profile with a 4-digit PIN so they know YOUR NETFLIX IS LAVA.
